DSCF9235The small yacht market has almost disappeared as boat building companies concentrate on larger models, stating there’s no money in small boats.

One small yacht which has defied this trend is the Cornish Shrimper 19 from Cornish CrabbersA sailing boat full of old world charm of yesteryears.

This little vessel is to sailing what the Volkswagen Campervan is to camping ‘Iconic’.

So what makes a boat so popular, is it price, size, club association or a particular feature, to me it’s all of them.

Cutting Edge Bright Spark

Cutting Edge Bright Spark

IMG_0981When it comes to kitting out a small boat, a cleverly designed product can be quite advantageous. One smart product is the Light My Fire FireKnife made by Mora of Sweden.

The problem on small boats is lack of space and a damp environment, this raises a couple of issues. Firstly where do you keep a sharp fixed blade knife and secondly, lighting the stove can be problematic if your matches are damp or you’ve run out of fuel in your lighter.

Dangling For Dinner

Dangling For Dinner

I 0142 (1996)What do you do in a little boat other than bobbing up and down on the ocean swells going nowhere slowly at great expense? Well, you could try Sea Fishing

During the time of Sea Spell a British Hunter 21, one activity enjoyed was dangling a line over the side and seeing if any fish could be caught, see photo. I and the rest of the crew didn’t have much of a clue, however fish were caught which was more luck than anything else. Once caught, no one had much of a clue what they were or what to do with them in the culinary sense.

“Salty” Man’s Best Friend

“Salty” Man’s Best Friend

A few years ago I was trying my hand at internet dating and it wasn’t going well, you’ve seen my picture so you know why.

There was a serious point to this, I was looking for someone with similar interests eg sailing to share my life with, be it on a part time or full time basis, however if I was unable to find this unique female, then I would need a plan “B”.

I came across this You Tube video: http://youtu.be/x7j6h7niHtU a Japanese guy sailing a Cornish Shrimper 19 with his dog and thought, if I can’t find the right person, why not do the same as him, get a dog, call it Salty and go sailing.
